Oh, am I in trouble!

Posted by H.A. Tinsdale on Monday, December 5, 2011,

I am in big trouble. I mean deep in the #@%* kind of trouble. I'm in sooo much trouble.

Here I go starting a blog and then don’t post anything to it for eight months. I am so embarassed. Last September I was in Paris and met a young woman and her husband that were taking a seven month sabbatical to southeastern asia with their three sons (6,8 and10) and she was going to blog about their trip. She left in mid September and so far I think she has something like 54 entries and that's with t...

A Review of “The Ice Princess” by Camilla Lackberg

I know it’s only been five days since I reviewed “Water for Elephants” but I was on a roll and didn’t want to lose momentum. I picked “The Ice Princess” because when I was on Facebook the other day I saw an advert on the sidebar that said something like “If you liked Stieg Larsson’s “Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest” then you’ll love the work of Camilla Lackberg.” Well, I never read any of Mr. Larsson’s wo...

A Review of “Water for Elephants” by Sara Gruen

One has to start somewhere and I’ve already spent a couple of days putting it off. I said in my last post that I was going to read more and I was going to use the NY Times List of Bestsellers to help make my selections. I picked “Water for Elephants” because a friend had previously recommended the author. I had no idea what the story was but when I saw it on the list I immediately went to my Amazon account and downloaded a copy to my ...

Read to Write

March 28, 2011

I just finished reading “The Lovely Bones” by Alice Sebold. It made me cry. It made me feel I’d shared in a life. It made me want to burn my own manuscripts. I’m ten years late in reading this masterpiece and I’m jealous. If I’d read it sooner maybe I could have done a better job in telling my own stories. I don’t wish to diminish Ms. Sebold or her amazing talent; I only wish I could be half as good. Like a lot of things in my life, I’ve spent a vast amount of ...

Will A Trailer Help?

Posted by H.A. Tinsdale Author of Learning to Live, The Price of Living and And Then She Smiled on Thursday, March 17, 2011,
Over the last few days I've been looking into creating a book trailer in order to attract attention to my work. I've been working with Brad Torreana at Russell Video Services in Ann Arbor, MI and I have to tell you he makes it sound so easy. I have no idea if it's going to work or not, I don't even know if I can afford it yet but if it's at all feasable I'm going to give it a try. I'm not going to give up or leave one stone unturned. I think I have a good if not great couple of  books complet...

My Strategy for Publication

Posted by H.A. Tinsdale on Monday, March 14, 2011,
As a new author, I have found it very difficult to attract the attention of either an agent or a publisher. To date I have accumulated about 285 rejection letters. I'm not completely discouraged since Stephen King recieved over 300 before "Carrie" was accepted. After all, it only takes one. I even thought of self publishing. After all that southern lawyer, what's his name? oh yes, John Grishom was originally self published. I heard he drove all over the south on weekends with a trunk full of ...

About Me

I'm not young but then I don't feel particularly old either. I was born and raised and live in Michigan althought I have done some time in other states and countries. I hate to travel but love to be places and see things I've read about in books like the Lowendenkmal in Laussane Switzerland that I saw in my high school latin book.
